~Federal
Territory Day 2012~
History:-
Federal Territory Day or ( Hari Wilayah
Persekutuan), is celebrated on February 1st every year in Kuala Lumpur,
Putrajaya and Labuan. The date marks the anniversary of the formation of Kuala
Lumpur, which took place in 1974. Ten years later in 1984, Labuan became the
second federal territory, and Putrajaya became the third federal territory of
Malaysia on February 1st 2001.
I believe Malaysians would realise that 1st February 2012, the Federal Territory of
Kuala Lumpur will be celebrating the 38th anniversary of its founding. Federal
Territory Day or Hari Wilayah Persekutuan is a state holiday for Federal
Territory in Malaysia. It is celebrated on 1stFebruary every year
in Kuala Lumpur, Labuan and Putrajaya. This date marks the anniversaryof
formation of the Kuala Lumpur Federal Territory in 1974.
The
celebration, with the theme “Rakyat Bersatu, Wilayah Persekutuan Maju”,at Dataran Merdeka was launched by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.
Present were the prime minister's wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, Federal Territories and Urban Wellbeing Minister Datuk Raja Nong Chik Raja Zainal Abidin, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Tan Sri Dr Koh Tsu Koon and KL mayor Tan Sri Ahmad Fuad Ismail.

The colourful
celebration started with a parade that comprised about 8,000 participants from
government departments, non-governmental organisations, private sectors,
agencies to institutions of learning. It also included a parade of
antique cars, super motor stunts,City Hall's cavalry contingent and a
demonstration by paragliders.
Unlike past years, this year’s event was held on a
moderate scale focusing more on the participants of the march past.Complete with
bikers, roller bladers, paragliders, little pom-pom girls and fantastic bands,
this year’s Federal Territories Day celebrations at Dataran Merdeka was a
blast, literally.
A total of 94
contingents took part with some 8,000 people from various sectors including
residents associations, government bodies, the three local authorities of Kuala
Lumpur, Putrajaya and Labuan as well as schoolchildren.
The march past
began with a children’s dance performed by young kindergarten and school pupils
who captured the hearts of the audiences who turned up as early as 7am to watch
the parade. The Youth contingent stole the show by performing stunts on racing
motorcycles, go-karts, rollerblades and bicycles while the stealth paragliders
descended from the sky, much to the delight of the public.
About Federal
Territory:-
The Federal Territories in Malaysia comprise of three
territories namely Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Labuan. Kuala Lumpur is the
national capital of Malaysia, Putrajaya is the administrative capital, and
Labuan is an offshore international financial centre. Both Kuala Lumpur
and Putrajaya are enclaves in the state of Selangor, while Labuan is
an island off the coast of Sabah. The official anthem of the territories is
"Maju dan Sejahtera", which means "Progress and
Prosperity". Each federal territory has its own flag

The Federal Territory encompasses the actual city of
Kuala Lumpur, the nation's capital, and its outlying areas known locally as the
Klang Valley. An urban centre, the Federal Territory's principal tourist
attraction is the nation's capital itself, Kuala Lumpur. The city itself has a
long history, dating back to the 18th century when it began as a mining town.

Most tourist attractions are located within the city,
such as the historical landmarks that trace Malaysia's development, and the
various shopping malls that offer a wide variety of international brands. There
are also various handicraft centres, including the historic Central Market
where tourists can purchase authentic traditional handicraft and souvenirs
As the nation's capital, Kuala Lumpur also hosts various
international events and exhibitions at modern venues like the Petronas Twin
Towers and the Putra World Trade Centre. Although most of the attractions are
located within the city limits, there are an amazing selection of great food
outlets at the outlying areas of the Klang Valley. Most of these outlets,
however, are known mostly to locals and are often hidden in residential areas.
